This week we celebrate Women in Construction Week (WIC) and the many women who work in and make important contributions to our industry every day! We are pleased to share the stories from many of the women who work and live in NH and VT. The project was created in partnership with I Build NH and NAWIC Granite State Chapter.

Why construction?
Construction is the "building blocks" of our world. Having diversity in the workplace has proven to show excel, growth, and transcendence. To me, being a part of the construction industry has been fulfilling and everyday is an opportunity to acquire a new skill or outlook. I love being able to learn and to have a fulfilling work experience.

What is your education/training background?
I am studying marketing and communications at Plymouth State University.

How did you find yourself working in the construction industry?
5 years ago I was working at a job that simply was not gratifying. I never felt like I accomplished anything at the end of the day, and when I was offered a new opportunity I was both nervous and excited. I had zero experience in the construction industry, and although I do not perform field work, I had a lot to learn about the trades. Learning the new industry was rewarding and every time I learned new terminology I would feel gratified. I finally felt as if I no longer had a job but I had a career that I could continuously grow at.

What do you enjoy most about your career?
My career allows me to have new opportunities each day and a learning process for each event. I have met some incredible people in the field and in the office, and this has been my favorite part of my career, meeting great people who share my passion as well as learning from each other.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on?
My favorite projects are the ones that allow us to complete a full demolition and continue with a brand new install. I am always fascinated at seeing the transition of what was to what it becomes.

What advice do you have for women who want to work in the construction industry?
Go for it, jump in, and do not be intimidated. We can learn and do anything!
