This week we celebrate Women in Construction Week (WIC) and the many women who work in and make important contributions to our industry every day! We are pleased to share the stories from many of the women who work and live in NH and VT. The project was created in partnership with I Build NH and NAWIC Granite State Chapter.  Olivia Slifer

Why construction?
My father has owned our business since I was 1 year old. I grew up in the industry and have always had a passion for design, architecture, real estate and the process of construction. I feel like it is in my blood and the only industry I'm truly passionate about.

Although I have not often been on the ground at job sites, I am humbled to be surrounded by many hard working women in the industry from all positions of businesses, and I am excited to watch women continue to dominate the industry and bring exciting new projects to life.

What is your education/training background?
I have an undergraduate degree from Lafayette College in Studio Art with a minor in Architecture. I recently completed my graduate degree from Harvard Extension School in Business Management. I have been involved/trained in our company since high school and slowly learned the ropes before starting full time shortly after undergrad.

What do you enjoy most about your career?
I love to see a project come to life from the beginning stages on paper, to the final product. Construction is extremely creative, something that I don't think is spoken of enough. I love the creative process and teamwork that it takes to make something complete.

What advice do you have for women who want to work in the construction industry?
Use your strengths to your advantage. Women are sharp, practical and creative, all of which are vital to construction. Do not be afraid to enter a "man's industry", be fearless and take risks.
