Women in Construction Week Profile
Rheana Anderson, Project Manager Assistant with Cobb Hill Construction
Why I chose a career in the construction industry: I chose a career in the construction industry because I grew up around my father, uncles and grandfather who were all in the industry. They worked in different aspects of the industry from management to driving heavy machinery. I would work with my grandfather in his woodworking shop as a kid and thought that creating something out of raw materials was really cool.
What training or education did you need for your current role? Computer knowledge definitely comes in handy. I work with a lot of programs daily and having the background knowledge helps.
What is a typical day like in your position? Every day is a little different. The tasks that I do are generally the same but different enough to keep things interesting.
What do you enjoy most about your career? I really enjoy the people that I work with. We all work together as a true team and build each other up. I have never worked in a place that has such a strong team.
What advice do you have for women who want to work in the construction industry? My advice for women who want to work in the construction industry is to just go for it. Women should feel empowered to do whatever they set out to do, regardless of the industry type. I, myself, didn't feel hindered in any way entering into this industry even though it is predominantly male dominated. Skills are skills, regardless of who has them.
