OSHA requires employers to provide training for each employee who might be exposed to fall hazards. The training must enable employees to recognize fall hazards and understand the procedures to minimize these risks.

This Fall Protection Competent Person Level Course includes ANSI/ASSP Z359.2-2023 Competent Person-specific training requirements. However, completing this course does not automatically designate an individual as a competent person. Only the employer can deem an individual competent based on their knowledge and experience.

  • Examples of applicable equipment and systems
  • Experiential exercises on fall protection equipment, including inspection, assembly, use, disassembly, and storage
  • Fall hazard recognition, identification, and surveying requirements
  • Periodic inspection of equipment components and systems
  • Developing fall protection procedures
  • Selecting and using certified and non-certified anchorages with a focus on strength and location
  • Awareness of the hierarchy of fall protection and related rescue regulations and standards
  • Attendees’ responsibilities within a fall protection program
  • Assessing system component compatibility
  • Estimating clearance requirements using maximum deceleration distances for fall arrest systems
  • Principles of fall protection system assembly, including reducing and controlling connections, free fall distances, arresting forces, swing fall, and ease of rescue
