On Wednesday, January 6, 2016, Palmer and Sicard hosted the Career Technical Education Construction Trades class of Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth, NH for a tour of the Abiomed, Danvers, MA production facility. The six students and two instructors were given a tour of the facility by Palmer and Sicard General Manager, Skip Lynch, and President, Mark Hodsdon, facilitated by Cianbro’s Assistant General Manager, Jonathan Dicentes. During the tour, students were exposed to the different trades that were at work in the building with many of the onsite tradesmen taking time to explain what they were doing and answer any questions that students had.
Palmer and Sicard is working with Portsmouth and other area high schools to help students understand how rewarding a career in the trades’ fields can be. By touring an active job site, the students were exposed to a vast number of different career opportunities they could pursue after high school. Students were able to see firsthand how important math, English and proper communication skills are and how well business operations flow as a result of those skills.
We are especially grateful for the time and involvement of the many Palmer and Sicard employees that were on site to help out throughout the tour. Also contributing to the success of the tour were the workers from Metro Walls out of Manchester, NH, Cranney Companies from Danvers, MA and AES who designed the project being visited. All workers on site provided an excellent example of a career future simply by doing their work in their customary professional and safe manner.
