This week we celebrate Women in Construction Week (WIC) and the many women who work in and make important contributions to our industry every day! We are pleased to share the stories from many of the women who work and live in NH and VT. The project was created in partnership with I Build NH and NAWIC Granite State Chapter.  

Why construction?
I was working for a CPA in New Hampshire that had a niche in construction accounting and I had to work with all kinds of construction companies. When I decided to leave public accounting and go into the private sector, construction seemed like a good fit for me. Also, growing up in Connecticut, my dad owned a ceiling and drywall construction company, so he's very proud that I am at Denron now.

What is your education/training background?
I graduated from Bentley University with a bachelor's degree in Accounting and I am a Certified Public Accountant. 

How did you find yourself working in the construction industry?
I had a construction accounting background working in public accounting, so when I moved to private, my experience and training got me the job at Denron.

What do you enjoy most about your career?
I love the people I work with. When people work well together, they can get a lot accomplished in a short amount of time. Actually seeing the big changes that have been happening at Denron since I arrived a little over 3 years ago brings me great joy and pride that I was a driving force in a lot of it.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on?
For me it was making the change in ownership happen, from the old ownership group passing the torch to our younger ownership group. So many great changes are happening now with a fresh perspective on future goals for Denron.

What advice do you have for women who want to work in the construction industry?
No matter where you are from or what your education level is, there are so many opportunities for women to shine in the construction industry. Don't be afraid to speak your mind, share your ideas and goals and work hard. You can make a difference!

National Association of Women in Construction
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has over 115 chapters throughout the United States, including the NAWIC Granite State Chapter. NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more. NAWIC advocates for the value and impact of women builders, professionals and tradeswomen in all aspects of the construction industry.
