This week we celebrate Women in Construction Week (WIC) and the many women who work in and make important contributions to our industry every day! We are pleased to share the stories from many of the women who work and live in NH and VT. The project was created in partnership with I Build NH and NAWIC Granite State Chapter.  

Why construction?
I grew up with a strong interest in Math & Science. My dad was an engineer, so I often followed him around at his project sites to see how all of the equipment worked to put things together. 

What is your education/training background?
I attended Clarkson University after high school where I enrolled in their Engineering & Management program. That program offered a concentration in Construction Management and it felt like a great fit! After 5 years in the Construction Industry, I also received my MBA from Bentley University in Management and Real Estate Management. 

How did you find yourself working in the construction industry?
I spent 3 of my summers during college interning at a major construction jobsite back home in Vermont and LOVED it. I learned the office side of Construction Management as well as some activity in the field. I pursued a Construction Management job after graduation and never looked back!

What do you enjoy most about your career?
I love building relationships with my project teams. Every project is unique and so are the people that are brought together to build each project. I like to be efficient to get the job done right, but also to have fun in the process. 

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on?
While I was working in Boston, I helped to construct a 250ft underground pedestrian tunnel on an active college campus! 

What advice do you have for women who want to work in the construction industry?
Women bring a different perspective and voice to their respective teams.  Don't be afraid to use your voice and stand up for yourself.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has over 115 chapters throughout the United States, including the NAWIC Granite State Chapter. NAWIC provides its members with opportunities for professional development, education, networking, leadership training, public service and more. NAWIC advocates for the value and impact of women builders, professionals and tradeswomen in all aspects of the construction industry.
