Kristin Wells, Senior Project Manager, WIC Week Profile 2021

This week we celebrate Women in Construction Week (WIC) and the many women who work in and make important contributions to our industry every day! We are pleased to share the stories from many of the women who work and live in NH and VT. The project was created in partnership with I Build NH and NAWIC Granite State Chapter.  Kristin Wells

Why construction?
Construction is an industry that allows diverse activities, provides an ever changing environment and people to interact with. It allows me to utilize my organizational skills and my love of people to develop and execute construction projects with a high sense of satisfaction at the completion. It is never boring!

What is your education/training background?
Bachelors in Business Administration and Economics

How did you find yourself working in the construction industry?
I was scheduling with Primavera products with my father who was a consultant after leaving AT&T and he asked me, "Can you learn this software so I can provide scheduling services to my construction clients for AT&T?” I said, "Sure" then that transitioned into working at Denver International Airport scheduling to the cubic yard of concrete and that was so fun! Learning how to schedule and adopting principles from the PMI institute, one thing just led to another and here I am!

What do you enjoy most about your career?
I enjoy saving money for the owners/subs and planning for super productivity so things move like clockwork. I also enjoy the fun owner relationships (I let my crazy out now and then!) and the happy DEW Management team.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on?
Redstone Lofts in Burlington, Vermont was the most interesting project because we were scheduling and resource loading our schedule and it worked so perfectly we finished early! I love that!

What advice do you have for women who want to work in the construction industry?
Don't let your perception of how people feel about you stop you from moving in the direction you want to go!
