If you have not heard by now, OSHA has announced a new pilot program that will train building inspectors in 10 cities across the country to look for safety violations on construction sites. Among the cities targeted for the pilot is Concord, NH. The Mayors of the 10 cities have received a letter proposing a partnership. If the Mayor’s accept the pilot the building inspectors will be trained, encouraged to look for safety violations at worksites they are inspecting and to notify OSHA of violations. Once notified, OSHA will send one of its inspectors to the site. Building inspectors lack of expertise with the volume of safety regulations, existing workload issues and concerns about liability for the municipality are issues ABC has discussed with representatives from the City of Concord. ABC will keep members informed about the prospects of this pilot in Concord.
