ABC has developed resources for members to help prepare for the impact of passage of the “Employee Free Choice Act”, or Card Check legislation. Card Check would create a dramatic change in existing labor law and provide an extremely important need for effective communication with all employees. Card check would strip away the rights of workers to a federally supervised private ballot election when deciding whether or not to join a union. The ballot process would be replaced with a card signing process that may be deceptive and result in misinformed, unintentional “votes” for union representation.
The resource information includes an article prepared by your ABC Chapter that provides a comprehensive overview of the legislation, the impact it would have on merit shop employers and employees and how to “inoculate” your company from becoming a victim of a card check campaign. National ABC has prepared and sent to all members a toolkit containing information on best practices for talking to supervisors and employees, tips for dealing with organizing campaigns and more. Also included is a two minute video to show employees and forward to others. The toolkit is in the form of a DVD and all members should have received a copy. Please contact the ABC NH/VT Chapter office for info or if you have any questions, or go to www.abc.org.
