ABCs NH/VT 2010 Construction Industry Wage and Benefit Survey Results are now available to members. The annual survey data, collected from December, 2009 – February, 2010, included responses from 85 contractors, with an average of 61 employees and an average annual volume of $14 million. The responses covered wage and benefit practices for 26 classifications of employees.

Again this year, one very specific “discovery” from the survey results is the potential cost savings that may be available to members through the ABC Merit Choice Dental program. 74% of employers responding to the survey are providing dental insurance for employees, up 4% from last year and contributing on average 38% of the premium, down 10% from last year.

The NH Senate has passed two bills targeting the states procurement practices. Senate bill 493 establishes a Best Value procurement commission specifically for the purchasing of construction services.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is proposing a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) for the new Lake Champlain Bridge Project, on the state line between Crown Point, NY and Chimney Point, VT. PLAs require all contractors working on the project to execute a union agreement, hire union workers, pay into union funds and operate under union work rules and conditions.

On Tuesday, March 9th, town meetings/ballots will determine funding for school building activity. The list of proposed new construction, renovation and additions includes over $250 million in potential projects.
